I grew up near Huntingdon and moved to London after graduating in 2007. Shortly after university I released my first ever single, ‘Two Kids’.
In 2008 I released the ‘You, Your Cat & Me EP‘ – which has sold over 12,000 copies to date (crazy!). I went on lots of tours, was on lots of radios and even had a Jagermeister endorsement. Living the dream!
In 2009 I thought I’d cracked it. I had Sushi on the 7th floor of a major record label and was promised the chance to make the album of my dreams. It never happened and I was gutted (to put it mildly).
In 2010 I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life and worked a couple of crappy jobs while deliberately ignoring my guitar and trying to find another love.
In 2011 I was asked to do a few shows and said yes. I really enjoyed them and I decided to make another record.
I didn’t have money to spend on expensive studios and had always wanted to produce myself so I bought an Apogee One and had a go. ‘Words and Nothing More’ came out on December 6th (4 days after I finished mixing it) and went straight to number 4 in the iTunes singer/songwriter chart on a marketing budget of £0 and a few tweets!
On January 2nd 2012 I had a silly idea… #onesongaweek
Just want to say how amazing it is that you’re doing this, I actually can’t believe. I hope it goes amazingly well and I’ll be buying every single song/saying how amazing you are on Twitter everyday (I won’t do that; but you are by the way). Before your ‘Words and Nothing More’ EP came out I was so bummed that you hadn’t released anymore music for a while. And now you’re doing one a week, oh my God. I’m so ridiculously happy.
very very excited about this Frank . Keep up the great work!
You, sir, are an absolute legend. Every one of the five weeks so far has been absolutely amazing. This weeks song actually made me shed a small, totally manly tear or two. Thank you.
Absolutely brilliant – I’m so excited to continue to expand my collection of your amazing songs. Works Quite Well is still my favourite of all time for now. Pleeeeeeease come and play in London again soon! x
Frank I first found you after hearing ‘You Your Cat & Me’ on Xfm and I’m so glad you’re still recording. I refuse to watch X Factor because it’s full of people who seem to think they have to be famous before they can make music. #Onesongaweek is proof that you don’t 🙂 xx
We first heard two kids on an ipod playing in a bar at Studley Castle Hotel in Warwickshire (are there performance rights issues here? … I digress ….) and caught the lyrics before the tune …. googled the lyrics and found you …. made it “our song” (we’re in our forties … is that wrong?). That was way back in April (we missed the St Pancras gig!) but we’ve been listening to a song a week every since and have now added Buttons to a list of “our songs” … looking forward to seeing you perform in Campden – just hope we don’t stand out too much and look like “the parents”!
It’s brilliant because there’s all this #onesongaweek business that I didn’t know about. You’re like the nicest calmest bits of Frank Turner, and a less twee version of Ed Sheeran. I’m a maaaaaassive fan.
Great stuff Frank, keeps me going sat at my desk.
Googled ‘Frank Hamilton’ and apparently you were born in 1934!!!! looking well
Any chance you could introduce me to the person who does the Jagermeister endorsements?
